1) On p.5 of the minutes for the meeting on the reduction of Midway to "minimum Maintenance status" (1949-Jul-29): "If definite SAR responsibility is delegated through chain of command to CO, NAS Midway, the PBY5A is suitable for SAR and local flying." 2) On p.3 of the memo "Reduction of Midway to Minimum Maintenance Status" (1949-Sep-20): "On the supposition that the Navy continues to perform SAR, it is recommended that in the A/C allowance a PBM5A be authorized in lieu of a PBY6A." A/C = Aircraft CO = Commanding Officer SAR = Search And Rescue |
